Responsibilities include:

  • Remotely (and where safe, in-person) assessing smart home devices, trackers, cameras, voice assistants and vehicle systems for misuse risk
  • Identifying indicators of monitoring, account compromise, or unauthorised access
  • Reviewing IoT and vehicle account settings, access controls, and linked applications for security and privacy risks
  • Avoiding actions that may alert perpetrators prior to safe intervention
  • Translating findings into clear, practical and non-alarming guidance
  • Supporting survivor-led decision-making by presenting options
  • Identifying and escalating high-risk scenarios in line with organisational protocols
  • Contributing to the development of safe, repeatable workflows and playbooks
  • Participating in peer review processes to ensure quality, safety, and consistency

This role conducts assessments of smart home technologies, trackers, connected devices, and vehicle systems to identify risks relating to monitoring, unauthorised access, and technology-facilitated abuse. Volunteers provide practical, survivor-led guidance and contribute to safe, ethical assessment practices within strict safeguarding protocols.
